How to Set Up Your Veerhost Email on Gmail (Read and Send Mail)

Estimated reading: 2 minutes

You can use Gmail to read and send email from your Veerhost mailbox. This is done by adding your mailbox as an external account (IMAP/POP for receiving, SMTP for sending).

Important notes before setup

Using Gmail this way does not “move” your mailbox to Google. Your email still lives on your Veerhost server. Gmail simply connects to it.

For best results:

  • Use IMAP if you want syncing across devices
  • Use POP only if you want downloading to Gmail (less ideal for multi-device setups)

Step 1: Collect your mail server settings

In cPanel, open Email Accounts and use Set Up Mail Client for your mailbox. Note:

  • Incoming server (IMAP/POP)
  • Outgoing server (SMTP)
  • Port numbers
  • Encryption type (SSL/TLS)

Step 2: Add the mailbox to Gmail for receiving

In Gmail settings, add a mail account for checking messages from another account. Enter your full email address and choose IMAP/POP settings based on your preference. Use:

  • Username: full email address
  • Password: mailbox password
  • Server: the incoming server from cPanel
  • Port and encryption: exactly as shown in cPanel

Step 3: Enable sending “as” your domain email

In Gmail settings, add “Send mail as” for your email address. Configure SMTP using the values from cPanel:

  • SMTP server from cPanel
  • Port and encryption from cPanel
  • Authentication enabled
  • Username: full email address
  • Password: mailbox password

Step 4: Test sending and receiving

Send a test email to a different address and reply back. Confirm:

  • Outgoing mail sends successfully (SMTP works)
  • Replies arrive back in the mailbox (incoming works)

Common problems and fixes

If Gmail cannot connect:

  • Re-check ports and encryption type
  • Confirm you’re using the mailbox password
  • Try the alternate port shown in cPanel
If Gmail can receive but cannot send:
  • SMTP authentication is missing or incorrect
  • Wrong port/encryption selected
