How to Point Your Domain to Veerhost

To connect your domain to VeerHost, you’ll need to update your domain’s DNS records so they point to your VeerHost server. This allows your website to be served from your VeerHost hosting account while keeping your DNS managed by your current domain registrar or DNS provider.

This method does not require changing your nameservers.

Before You Begin

Before updating your DNS records, make sure you have:

• Your VeerHost server IP address.
• Access to your domain’s DNS management panel.
• Administrative access to your domain registrar or DNS provider.

Step 1: Locate Your VeerHost Server IP

Your server IP address is available in several locations:

• Your VeerHost hosting welcome email.
• The Server Information section in cPanel.
• The cPanel sidebar (depending on your cPanel theme).

If you’re unable to locate your server IP, contact the VeerHost support team for assistance.

Step 2: Update Your DNS Records

Log in to the DNS management panel where your domain’s DNS records are hosted.

Create or update the following records:

If your DNS provider supports it, you may alternatively configure the www record as a CNAME pointing to your root domain (@).

Once the changes have been saved, your domain will begin directing traffic to your VeerHost hosting account.

Step 3: Remove Conflicting DNS Records

Conflicting DNS records can prevent your website from loading correctly.

Review your DNS zone and remove or update any records that point to another destination, including:

• A records for @ pointing to a different IP address.
• A records for www pointing to another server.
• CNAME records that point to a previous hosting provider.
• URL forwarding or redirect records that override your website.

Keeping your DNS records clean helps prevent routing issues.

Step 4: Allow Time for DNS Propagation

After saving your changes, DNS records need time to propagate across the internet.

Propagation usually takes:

• 30 minutes to 4 hours for most DNS providers.
• Up to 24–48 hours in some cases.

During this period, some visitors may still reach the previous server while others are directed to your VeerHost hosting account.

Step 5: Verify Your Domain Connection

Once DNS propagation is complete, verify that your domain is pointing to the correct server.

You can do this by:

• Visiting your website in a web browser.
• Confirming that your website loads from your VeerHost hosting account.
• Checking that your A records point to your VeerHost server IP using your DNS provider or an online DNS lookup tool.

Troubleshooting

If your website does not load after updating your DNS records:

• Verify that the A records point to the correct server IP.
• Ensure there are no conflicting DNS records.
• Confirm that your domain has been added to your hosting account.
• Clear your browser cache.
• Test your website using an incognito window.
• Try a different internet connection, such as mobile data, to bypass local DNS caching.

If DNS propagation is still in progress, additional time may be required before the changes are visible worldwide.

Notes

• Updating DNS records does not affect your email service, provided your MX records remain unchanged.
• You do not need to change your nameservers when using this method.
• If your website still points to the previous server after 48 hours, review your DNS records or contact the VeerHost support team for assistance.
