How to Change Your cPanel Password

Estimated reading: 2 minutes

Overview

Changing your cPanel password regularly is a good security habit. You can do it directly from inside cPanel, or from your VeerHost client area if you are locked out. This guide covers both methods.

Method 1: Change Password from Inside cPanel

  1. Log in to your cPanel account.
  2. In the top-right corner, click your username, then select Password & Security.
  3. Enter your current password.
  4. Enter and confirm your new password. Use the strength meter to make sure it is strong enough.
  5. Click Change your password now!
  6. cPanel will log you out. Log back in with your new password.

Method 2: Reset Password from the VeerHost Client Area

If you are locked out of cPanel and cannot log in, you can reset the password from your hosting control panel.

  1. Log in to your VeerHost client area.
  2. Go to My Products & Services and click on your hosting plan.
  3. Look for a Change Password or Reset cPanel Password option.
  4. Enter and confirm your new password, then save.
  5. The new password will be active immediately.

Password Requirements

A strong cPanel password should:

  • Be at least 12 characters long
  • Include uppercase and lowercase letters
  • Include at least one number and one special character (e.g., !@#$%)
  • Not be a word found in the dictionary
  • Not be reused from another service

Important Notes

  • Changing your cPanel password does not change your email account passwords. Email accounts have separate passwords managed under Email Accounts in cPanel.
  • Changing your cPanel password does not change your FTP password if you use a separate FTP account. However, your main cPanel username also doubles as an FTP user, so this connection shares the same password.
  • If you use Softaculous or WordPress auto-installer, your WordPress admin password is stored separately and will not be affected.
