Best Hosting for n8n in 2026: Cloud vs Self-Hosted VPS

Last updated: 17 October 2026. n8n prices come from n8n’s own pricing page and VeerHost prices from our n8n hosting page, both checked that day.
Key takeaways
- Best choice for production: a VPS with dedicated CPU and RAM, root access and at least 2 GB of memory. It gives you unlimited workflows and executions for a flat monthly price.
- Easiest choice: n8n Cloud. You manage nothing, but you pay by monthly workflow executions: Starter is 20 EUR a month for 2,500 executions and Pro is 50 EUR a month for 10,000, both billed annually.
- Cost at VeerHost: n8n Launch is $4.99 a month (2 GB), n8n Boost is $8.99 (4 GB) and n8n Turbo is $12.99 (2 vCPU, 6 GB).
- The trade-off: self-hosting means you install, update and back up n8n yourself. Count your own time as part of the price.
- Scale later: n8n’s queue mode lets one main instance and several workers share the load when volumes grow.
Short answer: for most people who run n8n in production, a VPS with dedicated resources and root access is the best home for it. n8n Cloud is easier if you do not want to manage a server, but its plans are priced by workflow executions per month. Self-hosting gives you unlimited workflows and executions for a flat server price, in exchange for doing the setup and maintenance yourself.
n8n is a workflow automation platform that connects apps, APIs and databases. VeerHost is a web hosting provider that sells VPS servers built for self-hosting n8n. This guide explains the three ways to run n8n, what to look for in hosting, how much memory you need, what each option costs, and how to set up a server safely.
The three ways to run n8n
1. n8n Cloud
n8n hosts everything for you. According to its pricing page, all plans include unlimited users and workflows, every integration, and you pay by monthly workflow executions, not by steps.
| n8n Cloud plan | Price | Executions per month | What else it adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 20 EUR per month, billed annually | 2,500 | 1 shared project, 5 concurrent executions |
| Pro | 50 EUR per month, billed annually | 10,000 | 3 shared projects, up to 50 concurrent executions, admin roles, workflow history |
| Business | 667 EUR per month, billed annually | 40,000 | 6 shared projects, SSO and LDAP, multiple environments, queue mode, Git version control |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | 200+ concurrent executions, external secret store, dedicated support with SLA |
This is the simplest route. You do not manage a server, apply updates or watch disk space. The trade-off is that you pay for execution volume, so a busy workflow can push you into a higher plan. n8n also offers a 50% discount on the Business plan to start-ups with fewer than 20 employees.
2. Self-hosting the free Community Edition on a VPS
n8n publishes a standard self-hosted version on GitHub. According to the n8n docs, all self-hosted installations use the same core product, and without a license key n8n runs as the free Community edition. You can run it with Docker, Docker Compose or npm, and the Host n8n documentation lists every install method.
Hosting costs only what the server costs, and no plan limits your executions. Check n8n’s license terms in its license file to make sure your use case is covered.
3. Managed n8n on a hosting provider
Some hosts install and manage n8n for you. This sits between the two options above. Before you buy, check what is included, because some managed plans limit executions or workflows in the same way n8n Cloud does, and some do not give you server access.
What to look for in n8n hosting
- Dedicated resources. Workflows run when webhooks arrive, so you want guaranteed CPU and memory, not a server that is shared with noisy neighbours.
- Enough memory. n8n, its database and your workflows all share RAM. Start with at least 2 GB and go up if workflows process large files or run in parallel.
- Root access. You need it to install Docker, Postgres, Redis or a reverse proxy such as Nginx or Caddy.
- Fast storage. SSD or NVMe storage keeps the database and execution history responsive.
- A domain and SSL certificate. Many apps send webhooks to a public HTTPS address, so you need to point a domain at your server.
- Backups. Take snapshots or file backups of your n8n data and your encryption key. Without them, you lose your credentials if the server fails.
- Easy upgrades. Your workflows grow. You should be able to move to a larger server in a few clicks.
- Support. When a webhook stops working at 2 a.m., a helpful human matters.
VeerHost n8n hosting plans
VeerHost’s n8n hosting plans are VPS servers with dedicated CPU, RAM and storage, full root access and instant setup.
| Plan | Price | CPU | Memory | Storage | Bandwidth | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| n8n Launch | $4.99 per month | 1 vCPU | 2 GB | 40 GB SSD | 2 TB | A few personal workflows and testing |
| n8n Boost | $8.99 per month | 1 vCPU | 4 GB | 80 GB SSD | 4 TB | Everyday workflows, webhooks and small teams |
| n8n Turbo | $12.99 per month | 2 vCPU | 6 GB | 120 GB SSD | 6 TB | Heavier loads, several projects and growth |
Every plan includes:
- Full root access and instant setup
- Dedicated CPU, RAM and storage
- 24/7 technical support from real people
- A 30-day money-back guarantee
- The VeerAI agent in your dashboard
These are unmanaged servers. You install n8n yourself, usually with Docker. Our step-by-step guide, how to self-host n8n on a VPS, shows the whole setup, and getting started with your VeerHost VPS covers the first login.
VeerAI helps with the account side. You can ask it to look at your DNS records or help you point a domain at your server, which you need for webhooks, and to check what is going on with your account. It works with read-only access by default and asks for your approval before it changes anything. Read more in introducing VeerAI.
What does n8n really cost each year?
Here is the yearly cost of each route. VeerHost plans are billed monthly in US dollars and n8n Cloud in euros, billed annually, so the figures are not directly convertible.
| Option | Yearly cost | Executions |
|---|---|---|
| n8n Cloud Starter | 240 EUR | 2,500 per month |
| n8n Cloud Pro | 600 EUR | 10,000 per month |
| n8n Cloud Business | 8,004 EUR | 40,000 per month |
| VeerHost n8n Launch | $59.88 | No limit set by the plan |
| VeerHost n8n Boost | $107.88 | No limit set by the plan |
| VeerHost n8n Turbo | $155.88 | No limit set by the plan |
The server price covers hosting only. A VPS has no execution cap, but the machine has finite CPU and memory, so a heavy workload needs a bigger plan. You also spend time on updates, backups and monitoring. If your workflows run a few hundred times a month and you do not want to touch a server, n8n Cloud is worth its price. If you run thousands of executions or many webhook-driven workflows, a VPS usually costs much less.
Cloud or VPS: which one should you pick?
| If you… | Choose |
|---|---|
| Want zero server work and run a modest number of executions | n8n Cloud |
| Run many workflows or high-volume webhooks and want a flat monthly price | A VPS |
| Need control over where your data lives, your Docker setup or extra tools | A VPS |
| Have no time for updates and backups | n8n Cloud |
| Are testing n8n for the first time | n8n Cloud trial or the smallest VPS |
| Want to keep customer data on your own server | A VPS |
How much memory does n8n need?
There is no single number, because it depends on what your workflows do. As a starting point, we suggest:
- n8n Launch (2 GB): good for learning, testing and a handful of scheduled workflows.
- n8n Boost (4 GB): a comfortable everyday size for webhooks, several workflows and a small team.
- n8n Turbo (2 vCPU, 6 GB): for heavier loads such as large data processing, many parallel runs or several projects.
Memory problems usually come from large files or big data sets inside a single workflow. The n8n docs have a page on fixing memory issues. You can upgrade your VPS later, so there is no need to buy the largest plan on day one. If you run out of disk space, our guide to fixing a VPS that is running out of disk space shows what to clear, and setting up a swap file helps prevent out-of-memory crashes.
Scaling n8n with queue mode
A single n8n instance handles most workloads. When volumes grow, n8n’s queue mode splits the work: one main instance receives triggers and several worker instances run the executions. Each worker is its own process that can handle multiple executions at the same time. The docs note that queue mode does not support binary data stored on the filesystem, so workflows that keep binary data need S3 external storage.
Queue mode needs more setup, usually Postgres and Redis alongside n8n, and more memory. That is the moment to move from n8n Boost to Turbo, or to run workers on a second server.
How to set up n8n on a VPS
This is the short version. The full walkthrough is in our guide to self-hosting n8n on a VPS.
- Choose a plan on the n8n hosting page. Your server is ready in moments.
- Point a domain or subdomain at the server with an A record. Our guide to pointing a domain to your VPS shows how, and verifying your domain confirms it worked.
- Log in over SSH and secure the server with a new user, SSH keys and a firewall, following how to secure your VPS.
- Install Docker and run n8n with Docker Compose. The n8n Docker guide has the commands.
- Put a reverse proxy such as Nginx or Caddy in front of n8n and add a free SSL certificate. See how to host a website on your VPS with Nginx, Apache, PHP and SSL for the same pattern.
- Set the webhook URL so n8n shows the correct public address. The docs explain the webhook URL setting.
- Save your encryption key. n8n uses it to encrypt your stored credentials, as described in the encryption key docs. Without it, a restored backup cannot read your credentials.
- Set up backups. Snapshots vs file backups explains both options.
Mistakes to avoid when hosting n8n
- Skipping backups. Your workflows, credentials and execution data live on the server.
- Losing the encryption key. Without it, a backup is useless.
- Running without HTTPS. Webhooks and logins should always use SSL.
- Leaving SSH open to the world. Use keys, a firewall and a non-root user.
- Choosing too little memory. Start with 2 GB at the very least.
- Not watching disk space. Execution history grows, so prune old data or add storage.
- Ignoring CPU spikes. If the server is overloaded, read fix VPS high CPU usage.
Which n8n option is right for you?
- You are learning n8n: n8n Launch, or the n8n Cloud trial.
- A solo builder with a few production workflows: n8n Boost.
- A small team with webhooks and several projects: n8n Boost or Turbo.
- An agency that runs automations for clients: n8n Turbo, and a separate server per client if you want to keep data apart.
- A company with strict data rules: a VPS you control, with access limited to your team.
- Someone who does not want to touch a server: n8n Cloud.
